The A2 category course prepares you for your A2 test - This is set to motorcyles of at least 395cc and an engine output of at least 25kw (34bhp)  There is however an upper limit, as perscribed by the DVSA of 35kw (47bhp).

Minimum age 19 years old. After 2 years of holding the A2 licence, you can then take the A Category Course.

Your instruction will take place on one of our 500cc motorcycles and will start on our secure training area, to get you familiar with the controls of the machine to prepare you for the Module 1 test. (Click here for further information).  This test is usually carried out at the DVSA test centre, located in Wakefield.

On completion of the Module 1 test your 1st Bike Rider Training instructor will continue your Module 2 training on various roads to give you more confidence before your module 2 test. This test can be carried out at various DVSA test locations, our prefered centre being located at York.  However there are other centres located around the Yorkshire area.

When you pass both Module 1 & Module 2 you will be able to:

  • Ride a motorcycle of at least 395cc and engine power of at least 25kw (34bhp) with upper power limiled to 35kw (47bhp).
  • Ride without L-plates.
  • Carry passengers.
  • Ride on motorways.
  • After 2 years you can then take  A Category training.

Cost of instruction - £30.00 per hour - £30 Reservation Fee*
Module 1 test fee - £15.50 (to DVSA).
Module 2 test fee - £75.00 (to DVSA).

Don't have your own equipment? Don't worry - 1st Bike Rider Training will provide you with the following-

  • Motorcycle helmet & Radios.
  • Waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers.
  • Protective gloves.
  • Scooter or Geared motorcycle (if required).

Please ensure you bring with you your Photocard driving licence, valid in date CBT certificate and DVSA Theory Test certificate (if already obtained).
